Vestax, an industry leader in professional DJ equipment, and algoriddim, a leader in next-generation music software for the Mac, today announce the release of Spin, a brand new all-in-one bundle of digital DJ hardware and algoriddim’s djay 3 software. The Spin DJ controller was jointly developed for optimal integration with the award-winning djay software, and delivers Mac users of all levels the experience of mixing, scratching and playing their music like a turntable DJ. djay 3 seamlessly integrates with the user’s iTunes library and transforms the Mac into a complete DJ setup, while Vestax’s hardware replicates the control and physical sensation of mixing and scratching on actual records.

The bundling of Vestax’s DJ MIDI controller and algoriddim’s djay 3 provides a powerful solution for all DJs, from beginner to pro. The Spin DJ controller mimics the classic setup of two turntables and a mixer, and easily connects to any Mac via USB. The user can then control djay 3 using two high resolution touch-sensitive jog wheels for scratching and remixing like on an analog turntable. Using the crossfader and controls for speed, looping, cue points, effects, and EQ, the user can smoothly fade from one song to another and apply professional-grade effects. The Spin controller also includes a built-in audio interface with a microphone input and two stereo outputs for headphones and master.

“Introducing DJing and reaching out to a new generation – the elder to the younger, the never before to the professional and experienced – has been one of our goals since the beginning of the DJ Midi controller movement,” said Charles Akira Ono, Vice President of the Vestax Corporation. “With our know-how and team of engineers dedicated in pro audio, quality and design, we’ve partnered up with software company algoriddim to bring you the perfect mix. Call it the best mash-up for bringing in the New Year, as we assure you will experience DJing at a new level of fun.”

“The Spin controller is a simple, yet powerful solution for all DJs, whether they’re just beginning to experiment with their music or they’ve been mixing for years,” said Karim Morsy, CEO of algoriddim. “We designed djay 3 to bridge the gap between everyday music enthusiasts and professional DJs, so we are thrilled to be able to offer our customers a hardware component that brings them that much closer to the real thing and beyond. It has been a real pleasure to closely work with Vestax on delivering Mac users everything they need to turn their Mac into a full-blown DJ system.

Spin is now available exclusively in Apple Stores within the USA and Canada.

Mixcloud pt. 2

Jul 29, 2009

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Molly from Street Giant recently popped in to check up with Nikhil Shah and Nico Perez of Mixcloud to get the full story of where this company is going:

Mixcloud is a website that helps DJs distribute and promote their mixes and radio shows more effectively, while helping fans easily discover relevant DJs and content. With plans to fully launch the site to the public September 2009, here are some special concepts they plan on adding to the site for the launch.

- Archive of previous mixes listened to
- Ability to view who listens to your mix, who's listening to what mix, what mix you're listening/have listened to
- Ad supported basic site with premium upgrade option which will ultimately feature mixes, podcasts and radio shows by name brand artists/organizations
- Ability to do limited, affordable target advertising
- No downloading, streaming only so everything is perfectly legal.

Mixcloud seeks to move people away from illegal downloading of single tracks and bring back almost the album concept via requiring 5 songs+ and streaming only, they are fully licensed by PRS in the UK which is their performing right society, like Ascap or BMI so they've paid for you, to use all your little samples.

- They say, "basically all DJ sets are illegal. By allowing only streaming and obtaining a proper performance license Mixcloud provides a safe haven for your music with an eye on de-cluttering content."

More news after the launch.

DJ Shadow

May 27, 2009

Today we get the entire musical youth of DJ Shadow box-set entitled The 4-Track Era Bundle, featuring early noise through a now defunct medium that we all still love deep down...

To most of us, DJ Shadow is a mind without a past. Everything he touched became a timeless piece, the demonstration of his powers beginning with 1996’sEndtroducing, an album that quickly became the soundtrack to the lives of many. While we often consider it his first full excursion into sampling production (in fact, it was the world’s first album composed entirely of samples), there was once a young Shadow; one who idolized influences and struggled with his own expressions just like any other artist. Pre-order now available through amazon.

The Future DJ

May 15, 2009

The era of the turntable/cdj DJ is coming to an end. With the power of Ableton Live and their soon to be released designated APC 40 controller, the possibilities of DJ's is only limited by your imagination...

Why play one song and cleverly crossfade into another song, when you can be triggering as many clips, loops and songs as you want while having them all synced. This video is courtesy of CyberPatrolUnit. Check out the video of this amazing controller before it's release.
